Do Digitalization and AI Represent IP Challenges or Opportunities?
For our inaugural IP Industry Outlook Survey, we benchmarked the IP sector's approach to digitalization, AI-driven portfolio technologies, and portfolio and budget IP challenges:
- More than 500 professionals around the globe participated in our research between March and April 2024.
- Their insights were further supplemented by interviews with 10 key opinion leaders, some of whom kindly agreed to be named in our research report.
- Questions covered digitalization and AI, IP challenges, and 2024 priorities.
- Participants represent a variety of industries and disciplines, with 55% holding a senior position of Chief IP Officer, Head of IP/Legal, General Counsel, Law Firm Partner, or Company Director, and 23% working in IP research, analysis, or administrative support roles.
- Of the respondents to our online questionnaire, 46% work in-house, 29% in IP/law firms, 14% in universities/research institutes, and 11% in SMEs/start-ups or other organizations.
- Their primary areas of IP focus are patents (47%), trademarks (20%), domains (14%), trade secrets (9%), copyright (8%), and domain names (2%).
- The majority of participants were based in Europe (55%), North or South America (17%), or Asia Pacific (17%).
